November 22nd – 24th, 2019

“Nothing compares to the sensation of being alive in the company of others.

It is god breathing on the embers of our soul”.

Each of us has a story to tell. The tales of our travels filled with heroes and heroines, victims and villains, silence and sound. Our lives become stunted when we allow ourselves to get stuck within the story. Moving stories is an opportunity to unlock what has become fixed by adding movement moments to the narratives which have bound us to the past.

Through movement and storytelling, we will practice using the pause to illuminate what has lurked in the shadows, 360° awareness to widen what may have become a myopic point of view and take inspiration from others to echo what has remained silent or forbidden.

*What to bring: a body (preferably breathing), imaginary scissors to shred any expectations, experiences of the heart (ache, break, soulmate), angst: the teenage years, two or more challenges, a spoonful of hope, all of your passions, habits you would like to break, beliefs you will allow to bend, a button (to push in case of emergency), something you belong to and long for. *inspired by Lori Saltzman
Michael listens to prayers in the wind and hears music, looks into the window “pains” of the heart and feels rhythm, touches the world through movement and knows spirit. After receiving a bachelor of fine arts degree from UCLA, he performed and choreographed in companies both nationally and internationally for 15 years.

He met Gabrielle Roth, creator of the 5Rhythms movement practice,  early in 1994 and soon after began teaching the 5Rhythms and was certified in 1998. Michael received his teacher certification in Soul Motion in 2001. He currently is a senior faculty member of the SoulMotion school. He has been an ongoing student of Continuum with Susan Harper since 1994. Michael is a certified Esalen massage practitioner since 1995 and is passionate about the art of touch. He trained in the Open Floor Movement Practice in 2018.

When Michael met Anneli his world stopped. He is incurably and hopelessly in love and that constant smile on his face is the result of a heart that has been touched by an angel lightly draped in human skin. In October of 2011, they were blessed with the ultimate miracle; his name is Jaylan Kyan. He is the physical expression of their living love.

Michael looks forward to moving and exploring with the Chicago movement community
